About Max

Max was surrendered to us after his owner became very ill and was no longer able to care for him. Because of his behaviour quirks, Max's care had been neglected for quite some time before that. He was living in an apartment but was only ever let out onto a balcony to relieve himself, and he never went for walks because of his barking. Max was also suffering from chronic, extremely painful ear infections that had gone untreated for years.

When Max first arrived, the pain was so severe that he would try to bite if anyone touched his head or reached for him. Our team worked with him every single day, muzzle training him, earning his trust, and treating his ears medically. In a short period of time, Max has made an incredible turnaround and is feeling amazing.

These days, Max loves long walks, carrying his stuffies around his room and outside, and of course, getting treats.

Max also has a heart murmur and will be seeing a cardiologist soon to develop a plan and determine whether he will need medication to help manage it.

Because Max can still bite when handled the wrong way, he is looking for a teen or adult only home with someone who understands proper handling technique and approach. He needs a family who is patient, understanding, and committed to continuing his medical treatment long term. Max would do best as the only dog in the home, as he is reactive to other dogs.

Max has come so far already. Now he just needs a family willing to meet him where he is and help him keep moving forward.
