About celvin
Celvin, a survivor with an incredible capacity for love who's overcome tremendous hardship to find joy again. Found on the streets of Turks and Caicos where people were unkind to him, Celvin has learned to be cautious with new people and may bark or lunge when he feels uncertain. He needs slow, patient introductions to build the trust that unlocks his wonderful personality. His foster family has found that meeting him on neutral ground, like a quiet rooftop, and giving him time to approach at his own pace works best.
Coming from an area where dogs had to fight for food and survival, Celvin can be reactive to other dogs, especially males, and his fosters are working through positive reinforcement to help him feel safe around other dogs on leash. He's discovered the joy of friendship and has made many female dog best friends who've shown him that relationships can be safe and fun. He's also quick to warm up to women in general, while new men take more time and patience before he feels comfortable.
With his trusted people, Celvin transforms into a bouncy, loving, couch-potato companion overflowing with affection. He's generous with kisses and has so much love to give to those who earn his trust. He sleeps soundly through the night, settles beautifully in the home, and can comfortably be left alone for several hours without any trouble. This adventurous boy loves being outside, especially on quiet walks and explorations away from crowds, and he's a fantastic travel companion who handles car rides like a pro. He also has a playful side, enjoying games of fetch (even if returning the ball isn't quite his strong suit), stuffed toys, and snuffle mats.
Celvin is looking for patient adopters who understand that his caution comes from survival. Given time and gentle encouragement, he'll reveal the joyful, loving dog he truly is underneath. He's ready to leave his difficult past behind and discover what it means to be truly loved and safe.
