Foster Program

Available Dog Tales Fosters

Thank you for taking the next step and choosing to foster with us! This is where change begins, and we’re thrilled to have you on board. We have many wonderful dogs eagerly waiting for a temporary home. Take a moment to meet some of our adorable residents:

Mello

Mello is a gentle, affectionate boy with soulful eyes and a big heart. He came to us under heartbreaking circumstances—after his owner passed away, Mello and his companion Loca were left alone in their home without food or water. Thankfully, they were rescued and brought to safety, and now Mello is on the path to healing and finding a loving home of his own.

Sensitive by nature, Mello is still adjusting to all the changes in his life. Shelter life has been hard on him, and he’s currently on anxiety medication to help him feel more at ease. He’s also managing allergies that require a special diet and regular medicated baths—but don’t worry, he’s a total champ about it all.

Once he trusts you, Mello’s affectionate and playful personality begins to shine. He loves gentle affection, relaxing walks, and being near his people. He would thrive in a calm, patient home where he can build confidence at his own pace. If you’re someone who finds joy in helping a shy dog blossom, Mello will reward you with quiet devotion and endless love.

Razzy

Razzy is a special soul who is urgently seeking a compassionate palliative adopter to open their heart and home to him. This gentle boy recently returned to our care due to ongoing seizures, and while his medical needs are significant, his capacity for love and his appreciation for life's simple comforts remain beautifully intact.

Razzy has lived almost his entire life without vision, which has shaped him into an incredibly resilient and adaptable dog. He navigates his world with remarkable skill, quickly mapping out new spaces and moving confidently through familiar environments. His blindness has taught him to rely on his other senses and the trust he builds with his people, making his bonds even more meaningful.

This sweet boy's perfect day revolves around the quiet joys that matter most. Razzy is a devoted cuddler who will gently paw at you when he's ready for his favorite thing in the world: endless belly rubs that seem to melt away any discomfort he might feel.

His seizures require diligent monitoring and medication administered on a very strict schedule, which means he needs someone who can be home frequently and remain vigilant about his care. His eyes require several daily drops to keep them comfortable, but he accepts this care gracefully from those he trusts.

While Razzy can be selective with other dogs initially, he's capable of building positive relationships through slow, patient introductions once trust is established. With people, he does best when allowed to approach on his own terms rather than having interactions rushed or forced upon him.

Razzy's ideal adopter must live close to King Animal Hospital for his ongoing appointments and any emergency situations that may arise. What he offers in return is immeasurable: the profound experience of providing comfort, love, and dignity to a dog who has faced life's challenges with remarkable grace. His perfect match understands that palliative care isn't about the quantity of time, but about filling whatever time remains with gentleness, love, and respect for this extraordinary boy's brave spirit.

Freddy

Freddy has a very interesting story! He was a local stray that was running for weeks. Many people tried to catch him but he was very scared. Eventually Freddy was secured and brought to a local Humane Society. He was extremely underweight and had very sore paws from running for so long. He was never claimed which means he was most likely dumped to fend for himself. Freddy was transferred to us because he needed further evaluation and training.

In a short period of time, we have seen Freddy evolve. He is learning to walk on a leash. He is very smart and knows sit and paw already! Freddy is extremely food motivated. He is strong and working on his leash manners. Freddy has extreme fear with strangers, especially tall men. He is looking for a teen or older family that will work on building his confidence. Freddy requires slow introductions to new people, therefore he would do best in a house with not too many visitors.

Freddy is being evaluated with dogs and seems to do well with female dogs and also some male dogs that are calm and social.

Athena

Athena came to us after being surrendered shortly after giving birth to eight beautiful puppies. Unfortunately, due to her being bred with her father, there were complications that resulted in the loss of four of her puppies. Despite the challenges, Athena proved to be an extraordinary mother, and all of her puppies have since found loving forever homes. Now, it’s Athena’s turn to find her own!

Athena is an energetic and vocal girl who thrives on activity. She loves playing fetch, exploring new surroundings, and running at full speed on the treadmill. Athena is looking for an active family that can provide her with the exercise, training, and mental stimulation she needs to stay happy and healthy.

Though Athena has made impressive strides in her reactivity toward strangers and other dogs, she will benefit from continued training and routine to help her reach her full potential. She’s highly motivated by toys and treats, making her eager to learn.

Athena is also incredibly affectionate and enjoys snuggling with her favorite people. However, she can get mouthy when she’s excited, so she would do best in a home with teens or adults. Athena tends to do well with dogs after a structured introduction and would love to have a dog sibling who matches her energy and temperament.

If you’re looking for a loving, spirited companion who’s ready to learn and grow with you, Athena could be the perfect addition to your family!

Avery

Avery is highly sensitive to energy, and she’s naturally drawn to calm, kind souls. This makes perfect sense when you consider her unique world. As a blind and deaf dog, Avery relies on touch and scent to navigate her surroundings and find safety. The busy kennel environment, filled with the stress of other dogs, can be overwhelming for her. But once Avery connects with you—once your energy meets her standard—watch out! She transforms into the most playful, goofy, cuddly, high-steppin’ girl you’ll ever meet. She’s a staff favorite, adored for her sweet snuggles and love of treats.

We’re seeking a family without children who will patiently take the time to build a bond with Avery, allowing her to trust their energy. Imagine the purity of love that can blossom in this special relationship. Avery may not see or hear you, but she will love you deeply. Avery is living with a genetic condition called retinal degeneration, which has caused her blindness. Unfortunately, due to the progressive nature of the condition, nothing could be done to save her vision.

Avery was surrendered to us when her family moved to a house with stairs that posed a danger due to her orthopedic issues. As a result, we’re looking for a home without stairs. Avery has hip dysplasia and arthritis in her right front elbow, a result of a previous fracture. Avery enjoys walks and the comfort of long naps afterward. She likes other dogs but may initially be reactive, which is completely understandable given her disabilities. A home with another steady dog could work, but only after multiple visits to Dog Tales to ensure compatibility.

Because of her visual and hearing impairments, Avery can be reactive and may lunge when meeting new people or dogs. It’s important that her adopter takes introductions slow, providing her with the consistency and safety she needs in these situations. To support a smooth transition, Dog Tales will offer training both before and after adoption. Avery’s new family will need to visit regularly to build a connection.

Ollie and Lulu

Ollie and Lulu came to us after their previous owner could no longer care for them. When they arrived, they were suffering from untreated medical issues and severe dental disease, leaving them uncomfortable and withdrawn. But with proper veterinary care and lots of love, they’ve transformed into completely different dogs—happy, affectionate, and full of personality.

Though they may be in their golden years, these two still have plenty of pep in their step. They enjoy daily walks, yard time, and simply being together. Their bond is heartwarming, and their goofy, lovable natures have made them instant favorites among our volunteers.

Ollie and Lulu do have some ongoing medical needs, but they handle them like champs. Ollie takes daily eye drops and medication to manage arthritis pain, while Lulu is under the care of a cardiologist for degenerative valvular disease and takes heart medication twice a day. Thankfully, both are incredibly cooperative—they take their meds and eye drops without any trouble, like true pros.

They’re dog-selective and would do best either as the only pets or with a calm, gentle dog who respects their space. Ollie may bark at other dogs in passing, while Lulu tends to ignore them. They’ve also done wonderfully with respectful, dog-savvy children who understand when to give them space.

Lulu does appreciate her quiet time and occasionally likes to nap undisturbed, but she communicates her needs clearly. Ollie, on the other hand, is always cheerful, cuddly, and eager to be near his people.

They’ve proven to be excellent houseguests during overnight stays with our volunteers—calm, well-mannered, and a joy to be around. With their big hearts and easygoing personalities, Ollie and Lulu are ready to spend their golden years surrounded by love, comfort, and companionship.

If you’re looking to welcome two incredibly special dogs into your home, Ollie and Lulu would love nothing more than to be your loyal companions.

Natasha

Meet Natasha – a gentle girl with roots in Russia and a heart full of love to give. While much of her past remains a mystery, what we do know is that Natasha is searching for a calm, peaceful forever home where she can feel safe and loved.

Naturally timid around new people, Natasha thrives in a quiet, adult-only environment where she can take her time to settle in. But once she feels comfortable, she’ll reward your patience with tail wags, quiet companionship, and a love for leisurely strolls by your side.

Natasha has been examined by our vet and is in great health, aside from needing to shed a few pounds with the help of a gentle weight-loss plan.

If you’re looking for a quiet, loyal companion to share your days and snuggle up with in the evenings, Natasha might just be the perfect match for you.
