Mello and Loca
Meet Mello and Loca – an inseparable duo with a powerful bond and an even bigger love for life.
Believed to be mother and son, Mello (5 years old) and Loca (7 years old) came to us under heartbreaking circumstances. After their owner passed away, they were left alone in their home without food or water. Thankfully, a kind-hearted neighbor stepped in to help, and eventually, they made their way to us.
This bonded pair must be adopted together—they’ve been through so much and find comfort in one another's presence. Both have recently been spayed and neutered, and Loca has already had a much-needed dental procedure, with Mello scheduled for his soon.
Friendly, affectionate, and full of personality, Mello and Loca are always ready for a new adventure. However, shelter life has been especially hard on Mello. He's been started on anxiety medication to help him cope, and shortly after arriving, he was also diagnosed with allergies. To stay comfortable and itch-free, Mello requires a special diet and regular medicated baths.
Mello and Loka are working on their leash manners. They are extremely strong pullers but we are seeing improvement with their training everyday. They are looking for a family with the time to continue their training.
What these two need now is a loving home where they can continue their journey together—exploring the world, cuddling up at night, and being cherished for the incredible dogs they are.
If you’re looking for a loyal, loving pair to share your heart and home, Mello and Loca are ready to meet you.
Freddy
Freddy has a very interesting story! He was a local stray that was running for weeks. Many people tried to catch him but he was very scared. Eventually Freddy was secured and brought to a local Humane Society. He was extremely underweight and had very sore paws from running for so long. He was never claimed which means he was most likely dumped to fend for himself. Freddy was transferred to us because he needed further evaluation and training.
In a short period of time, we have seen Freddy evolve. He is learning to walk on a leash. He is very smart and knows sit and paw already! Freddy is extremely food motivated. He is strong and working on his leash manners. Freddy has extreme fear with strangers, especially tall men. He is looking for a teen or older family that will work on building his confidence. Freddy requires slow introductions to new people, therefore he would do best in a house with not too many visitors.
Freddy is being evaluated with dogs and seems to do well with female dogs and also some male dogs that are calm and social.
Athena
Athena came to us after being surrendered shortly after giving birth to eight beautiful puppies. Unfortunately, due to her being bred with her father, there were complications that resulted in the loss of four of her puppies. Despite the challenges, Athena proved to be an extraordinary mother, and all of her puppies have since found loving forever homes. Now, it’s Athena’s turn to find her own!
Athena is an energetic and vocal girl who thrives on activity. She loves playing fetch, exploring new surroundings, and running at full speed on the treadmill. Athena is looking for an active family that can provide her with the exercise, training, and mental stimulation she needs to stay happy and healthy.
Though Athena has made impressive strides in her reactivity toward strangers and other dogs, she will benefit from continued training and routine to help her reach her full potential. She’s highly motivated by toys and treats, making her eager to learn.
Athena is also incredibly affectionate and enjoys snuggling with her favorite people. However, she can get mouthy when she’s excited, so she would do best in a home with teens or adults. Athena tends to do well with dogs after a structured introduction and would love to have a dog sibling who matches her energy and temperament.
If you’re looking for a loving, spirited companion who’s ready to learn and grow with you, Athena could be the perfect addition to your family!
Rowan
Rowan joined our shelter family after his beloved owner passed away. This distinguished older gentleman has quickly won the hearts of our staff with his dignified demenour and sweet nature.
Rowan treasures his daily walks and thoroughly enjoys exploring the outdoors, where his curious spirit truly shines. He moves at his own thoughtful pace, taking time to investigate interesting scents and observe the world around him.
After his adventures, Rowan appreciates his quiet time. He's looking for a peaceful home with teens or adults who understand that when he's resting, he prefers not to be disturbed. This makes him best suited for a calm household without young children.
While Rowan is still being evaluated with other dogs, his interactions so far have been promising. We're continuing to assess his compatibility to ensure he finds the perfect match.
Max
Max is a spirited senior with the energy of a much younger pup! Don’t let his age fool you—this lively gentleman enjoys adventurous walks, car rides with the windows down, and, most of all, spending quality time with his human companions.
Max came to us when his elderly owner was no longer able to provide the care he needs. Despite the change in his life, his joyful personality continues to shine through. While he can be a little cautious around new dogs, Max does well with slow, thoughtful introductions. His occasional barking is simply his way of expressing nerves in unfamiliar situations.
At heart, Max is a loving cuddle-bug who forms deep bonds with his people. He does have some special needs, such as frequent ear cleanings and twice-weekly medications, which can be a bit uncomfortable for him. These treatments currently require extra patience, occasional sedation, and a muzzle, but Max is making great strides as he learns to trust. He has also been seen by a cardiologist for a heart murmur, and while he has been diagnosed with mild mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, neither condition requires any treatment or medication at this time.
Max is looking for a patient adopter who can offer the consistent care and understanding he needs to enjoy his golden years. In return, he’ll offer unconditional love, companionship, and that signature spunky spirit that makes him so special!
Coley & Sophie
Coley and Sophie are a deeply bonded pair who came to us during one of life's most difficult moments when their beloved owner suddenly passed away. These two inseparable companions have found comfort in each other through this transition, and you'll often discover them curled up together on their shared bed, drawing strength from their unbreakable bond.
Both girls are absolute sweethearts with gentle souls and loving hearts. They've mastered the art of the perfect cuddle session and will happily spend hours snuggled up with their favorite humans, offering the kind of quiet companionship that warms the heart. Their ideal day includes peaceful walks at a leisurely pace, taking in the world around them without any rush or pressure.
While Coley and Sophie get along well with other dogs, they flourish best with calm, respectful canine companions who understand and appreciate their more relaxed approach to life. Their mature energy levels mean they prefer gentle playmates who won't overwhelm them with too much excitement or roughhousing.
These lovely ladies have shown they can coexist beautifully with children who treat them with kindness and respect. They respond well to gentle interactions and seem to appreciate young family members who understand their need for calm, thoughtful engagement.
Coley and Sophie are seeking a special family who recognizes the beauty of their bond and is committed to keeping them together. They would thrive in a peaceful home where they can continue their journey of healing while sharing their abundant love with a family who will cherish both their individual personalities and their remarkable connection to each other.
Malik
Malik is a resilient young dog who has overcome a challenging start in life to become the loving companion he is today. This brave boy came to us from a difficult situation where he missed out on the crucial early experiences that most puppies enjoy. Without the chance to learn basic skills or simply play as a youngster, Malik is still discovering the world and building his confidence one day at a time.
While Malik may be nervous around new people at first, his transformation is remarkable once he feels safe. With the help of some tasty treats and a patient, controlled introduction, this sweet boy reveals his true nature as an absolutely wonderful buddy. His initial wariness melts away to show a dog who genuinely wants to connect and trust.
Where Malik truly shines is in his relationships with other dogs. He has an infectious love for canine companionship and would greatly benefit from living with another dog who can help him continue building his confidence and social skills. These furry friendships are essential for his ongoing development and happiness.
Malik would thrive in a home with teenagers or adults who understand his unique needs and background. He's searching for a dedicated family committed to continuing his training journey, particularly with leash manners and basic skills he's still learning. A quiet home and neighborhood would be ideal for this sensitive soul, providing the calm environment he needs to feel secure and continue growing.
This energetic boy has some quirks that come with his background - he can be quite mouthy and will need patient guidance and consistent training to learn appropriate ways to interact. Regular exercise and mental stimulation are crucial for Malik, as draining his energy helps him focus and learn more effectively.
